Yeah, those are actually pretty neat. I rode along in one that belonged to an instructor at Thunderhill and was quite surprised.

Even a 1988 will require a quite a bit of suspension modification to get its handling into the same realm as modern cars, but the 1988 has vastly improved steering and ride quality. You can modify an earlier one to be objectively more capable than a stock '88, but the '88 is just more certain of what it is doing in any given scenario.
